About the Art
Recycle ~ Handcrafted ~ Transformed
My work is all about transformation.
I refinish used furniture, repurpose everyday discards into home decor items & I create my own canvases for my paintings.
Not long ago I developed a way to create 'canvas' from plastic shopping bags. The process involves fusing several bags together creating layers with the bags to build strength for the canvas. Once I have large sheets of canvas prepared I use recycled frames sourced from yard sales and thrift stores to stretch the new canvas over. Then the canvas is traditionally with gesso before painting.
This process allows me to keep thousands of plastic shopping bags out of the landfill & I believe we are charged to be good stewards of the resources God has given us so it blesses me to know I can do something to make a positive impact on the environment with my work.
About The Artist
I was born and raised on Long Island, New York. My husband I & moved our family to Georgia in 2003. We've been married 27 years, have 4 really great kids, 1 son in law (soon to be 2) and 2 beautiful granddaughters.
I believe I was created to create & I have been 'creating' as long as I can remember.
I never could pidgeonhole myself into one well defined 'niche' and that has given me the opportunity to develope in many areas.
I pursued interior design in college as I studied for a fine arts degree. I've assisted a well established interior designer from Long Island, NY. I've participated in shows, exhibits and compititions both on and off line. I ran a custom window treatment business for a short time and later developed my skills in graphic design, website design and digital art. I ran a successful website design business for several years then turned my attention back to studio art.
I've had the privledge of developing & teaching a k-12 studio art program for a homeschooling co-op I belonged to for many years. The course included an annual juried art competion and exhibit. I think this is among one of the most rewarding things I've ever done and I treasure those memories.
Now I've found a fusion of sorts, creating art on my canvases of recycled material. Transforming interior spaces using refinished second hand furnishings. Recycling and repurposing discards into art and home decor.
Everything I do is influenced by my faith. It motivates & inspires me, my life and my art. I love the challenge of transforming discards and turning them into something beautiful - the same way my life transformed when I made Jesus my Lord and savior.
I hope my art blesses you
